5 Latest Gym Trends That No One Will Ever Tell You

In the last few years, there are some gym trends that have blown up and become very popular in the fitness industry. Some of them will never make sense to me, some I refuse to participate in, and others, I can understand the hype. What makes me laugh is that I thought some of these gym trends were cute at first but we thank God for growth. It’s easy to jump on the hype train because the majority love a specific trend but, staying true to yourself is the key. In today’s post, I’m going to share some gym trends that I love, I don’t like and some that are 50/50 to me. I also want to hear from you. What trends do you or don’t you like? Share them in the comments below.

Matching Gym Sets

Matching gym sets are cute. It took me a while to jump on this trend as I used to wear whatever I had to the gym when I first started. Now I like to buy matching gym sets with the leggings for winter, but it’s rare that I wear the sets together. I just like having the option to wear them if I don’t want to wear mismatch clothing to the gym.

Scrunch Butt Gym Trends

I absolutely hate this trend. It’s something that I will never get into and I know ‘never, say never’ but I can assure you, you will never see me wear this style. I find them so uncomfortable. They dig right in and I need to feel comfortable in my gym clothes to train in them. Also, I’ve seen way too many gym horror stories of them ripping right down the middle mid-squat. It’s a no from me.

Running Shorts

Running shorts are a yes for me. I loved wearing them in my first two to three years of lifting. They are breathable, airy and versatile for multiple sports. The reason I stopped wearing them was because they can snag onto equipment due to the way that they are made. Also, I feel in love with seamless shorts that molded to my body.

Biker Shorts: Gym Trends

Biker shorts are 50/50 for me. I’m short (5’0) and wearing these make me feel like I am wearing leggings. I cannot deny that they are not comfortable because they are but wearing them while training makes me too hot. I don’t mind wearing them leisurely at home or under dresses in the summer to prevent chafing.

Gym Bodysuits

These sound very impractical if you are not a gymnast. It doesn’t make sense at all. It reminds me of a wetsuit that is continuously going to hold all the sweat during a 2 hour powerlifting session against your body. Absolutely not.

Workout Skorts

Workout skorts is 100% yes for me and I don’t care how impractical it is. The idea of wearing a skort (shorts with a skirt feature) to the gym adds a little femininity and mystery to it. I think it’s one of the best gym trends to have come out in the last year. You don’t have to worry about people staring at your bum during a training session because you have that extra layer of protection as a skirt. Lastly, it provides another option of bottoms to wear in the gym.

These are my thoughts on the latest gym trends in the fitness industry in 2022. I’m sure that there are others that popped up this year and more that will feature next year. I love how gym clothing has evolved since I started 10 years ago and I’d love to see how it evolves in the future. What are some of your favourite gym trends? What ones do you dislike?
