How To Hit That Post-Holiday Reset With 5 Tips

Just like that, summer is over. I don’t know about you, but September always feels like a fresh start with school back into session. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to jump full speed into your schedule after a lovely summer break. Personally, I don’t like to do that as it sets me up to failure. I prefer to take my time and ease back into everything. It can take a week to 10 days or 2 weeks for me to completely reset. Here are my five my tips to have a successful post-holiday reset that your body, mind and soul needs.

Unpack & Do Laundry

Are you an immediate unpacker or do you leave your suitcase in the corner for weeks? Don’t be shy, this is a safe space. I used to dump my suitcase in the corner and stare it at for days before I pushed myself to unpack everything. Maybe it was that dreaded feeling that my holiday was over or I didn’t feel like doing chores again. I’m not sure, but whatever it was I’m glad that I’m getting out of that cycle.

Aim to unpack your suitcase immediately after you come back from a holiday or first thing the following morning. Nothing feels great than throwing clothes in the washing machine or making a trip to the dry cleaners. That one small task makes you feel accomplished and more motivated to tick off the rest of the post-holiday reset to-do list.

Hydrate Yourself

Sis, let’s be honest. How much water did you drink on holiday? As much I as start my days with water, I tend to lean towards all the fruity cocktails and wines that I can get my hands on. Now that you are home, start your day with a glass of water. Add a fruit like lime, lemon and orange slices to help with increasing your water intake. Carry a bottle of water with you everywhere so you can sip some water on the go and cleanse your body from all the alcohol and toxins. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Your body and your skin will thank you in the long run.

Post-Holiday Reset Your Nutrition

This is one of my favourite activities on the post-holiday reset to-do list: stocking up on fruits, veggies, proteins, and grains. I feel good. My body feels good. My energy levels are soaring when I fuel myself with nutritious foods. I would recommend getting back into the habit of cooking your meals for the first few weeks after a holiday to know what you are putting into your body. Add more fruits and veggies for vitamins, minerals and fibre to keep you fuller for longer. Eat more protein to help build and/or maintain your body mass, increase strength and improve the health of your nails, hair and skin. Eat your favourite carb sources to give you the energy to ease into your routine.

Move Your Body

Post-holiday reset - move your body.

If you are not eating enough food, don’t go to the gym! I mean that. A lot of people like to throw themselves into the gym as soon as they are back from holiday. I used to be guilty of this too. If your nutrition is not where it needs to be to give you energy, don’t go. There are so many other ways you can move your body until you are ready to head back into the gym.

Go for walks and/or choose walking as your mode of transport to cross off your post-holiday reset to-do list. Walking is the most underrated form of exercise. Stretch in the mornings or the evenings to increase your flexibility. One of my favourite stretching videos is by Mady Morrison on YouTube. When it comes to staying active and keeping the body moving, you need to get a little more creative and use what is around you!

Reset & Ease In

Give your body time to rest and recover after a holiday. The same way we transition into a holiday through prepping, transition yourself back into your routine through rest and ease. Do something to help you decompress whether that is reading, watching a movie, sleeping or a self-care activity. Take your time until you feel ready to go full speed into your routines. You can’t pour from an empty cup so make sure that your cup is full.
