How To Create A Fun List of Summer Solo Dates

Summer is what you make it. It’s the annual permission slip to relax, do nothing and have it count for something. To slow down, lay on the beach, play in the lakes, travel or read a book by the poolside. In addition, summer is also the perfect opportunity to say yes. Try doing fun activities that you have always wanted to do. It is easy to let the season go past you in a flash and realise that you didn’t get to do everything that you wanted. That’s why having a loose plan of what you want to get out of this season is important.

Summer, noun: represents happiness, optimism, joy, warmth, great health, outdoor activities and brightness.

For me, I want to go to more lifestyle events. That includes doing activities that I wouldn’t usually do. Some that I have on my list are axe throwing, going to outdoor cinemas and tennis games. Moreover, there are other activities that are in my solo dates jar that I have started to do more frequently as it is warmer outside. In short, summertime is also the best opportunity to discover more events that are happening in your area or city. I feel that it forces you to get out of your comfort zone and enjoy everything that this season has to offer.

If going on solo dates is something that you’ve always wanted to try, but felt nervous doing, summer is the perfect time to get started. Most fun activities for this season are outside. Most likely, you’ll be spending more of your time outdoors than indoors soaking up all that Vitamin D. Why not take advantage and start curating a fun list of summer solo date activities?

How Can I Start Dating Myself

The first thing about dating yourself is accepting and understanding that you don’t need a romantic partner with you to have great time. You don’t need to have a romantic partner to go on a holiday, try out a new restaurant, explore your town or city, or go out to the cinema. There are activities that you can do on your own without taking someone else’s interests and preferences into account.

The second thing about dating yourself is looking at it as an investment. That investment can look like creating a journaling practice and nourishing your body with the right foods. Taking care of your physical health, splurging on yourself or doing something completely new.

The third thing about dating yourself is to view it as a muscle. It’s hard at first because it is something new and something that you haven’t done before. When you try it for the first time, it may feel awkward. The more you do it, the more you comfortable and confident you’ll become. If going outside to do your first one scares you, then build that muscle up by doing some solo dates at home. Once you have built up that muscle, add another rep by doing one outside.

Don’t forget that a good book and a playlist are great companions to ease yourself into solo dates outside.

Why Is Summer The Perfect Time

With summer comes longer, warmer evenings, it’s also the best time to discover new methods of self care. Being able to spend more time outside is refreshing as it clears your mind and allows you to renew yourself with fresh air. I believe that it is one of the only seasons of the year that allows you to be present in the moment and reduce the amount of time fixated on a screen. Simply taking care of yourself and doing the things that are both fun and brings you joy is the perfect summer self care method.

Another reason why summer is the perfect time to do fun solo dates is due to the number of activities, festivals and events that that place when the sun is shining. As more people are outside, take comfort knowing that you will be surrounded by other people and their energy. Sometimes, the atmosphere around you can give you a boost of confidence to say yes and try something new.

Tips To Curate A Fun List of Summer Solo Dates

If you are ready to curate a fun list of summer solo dates and not sure where to start, here are some things that I recommend doing:

  1. Visit your local city’s tourism board and go through their calendar of events.
  2. Make a list of all the activities including:
    • Firstly, fun activities that you certainly would enjoy
    • Secondly, activities that you think you think you would like to do
    • Thirdly, activities that you are not sure you would enjoy.
  3. For the activities that ended up in the last category, schedule them at least once a month during the season.

You are probably wondering why I have suggested scheduling the activities that you are not sure you would enjoy for the summer. As I mentioned earlier, dating yourself is an investment. The advantage of solo dating during the summer is that you will discover more about yourself including your likes and dislikes. You are not sure that you will enjoy the things listed in the last category. In other words, there is a 50% chance that you might enjoy them and you will never know unless you give it a go.

For example, I had making mocktails as a solo date activity. I had no idea if I would enjoy it. It was in my solo dates jar. I bought the ingredients and made three different mocktails. You know what? I had so much fun using my cocktail making kit and making them. As a result, I did it again the following day.

This is your ‘say yes’ summer. Take the plunge and try something new this season.
