In the last six years, I have tried multiple skincare products to reach my ultimate goal of having even, healthy and glowing skin. Luckily, I haven’t used products that have damaged my skin barrier and it is not by chance. I’m very strict about the ingredients that I use on my skin, always do patch tests with most products, and in-depth research about anything new I want to add to my routine. I am at a point where I have my skincare routine set. Occasionally, I’ll try new products such as cleansers, moisturisers, facial oils, toners etc. This is mainly to see if there is another product that can elevate my current routine. Products by BYOMA have elevated aspects of my routine over the last couple of years.
At the beginning of my journey, SokoGlam was my skincare bible. I learnt about skincare concerns, figuring out my skin type (dry, combination, normal etc.), product types, ingredients and more. Anytime I have questions or need to do some in-depth research about anything, I always refer to that website. Over time, I began to build upon my routine. Two years into my skincare journey, I was searching for a facial oil as the last step of my nighttime routine. I can’t remember how I discovered BYOMA’s hydrating recovery oil, but that led me to try out more of their products over the next few years. In short, it is always an experience using these products as they cater to my concerns.
Let’s explore this affordable skincare brand, BYOMA. Does it stand the test of time? Is it good for sensitive skin?
About BYOMA: The Brand
People began to play chemist in their bathrooms during the pandemic and experimenting with strong actives. Leading to damaged skin barriers with less desirable results, one of the most recognisable TikTok-era skincare brands was born. In 2020, beauty entrepreneur, Marc Elrick, watched as interest rapidly grew about skincare routines and transformations and with the risk of over-exfoliating and compromising the skin. He saw that both products and ingredients were being shared, without the necessary education required, to understand what it was doing and how it reacted to different skin types. There was a gap in the market. The gap missing was between affordable active-led products and gentler barrier-supporting formulas for younger consumers.
The lack of skincare education running rampant on social media chose their initial target audience, Gen Z. In 2022, BYOMA was born and hailed for their Tri-Ceramide Complex. The rapid success of the launch was due to the affordability of their products, and their stance on educating younger consumers through their social media channels, specifically TikTok. Over the years, the brand has remained true to their ethos and their Why. It has a foundation of educating its consumers about barrier health and single-active ingredients.
Moreover, on their website, they have a ‘Bylogy Class’ and a skin analysis tool to help consumers understand skincare and their approach in a simple and clear way. These tools are a testament to their ethos. Their products do not only transform their consumers’ skin, but also evolves their mind to making informed choices about their skin health. In sum, BYOMA has established themselves as a brand that cares.
Their Visual Identity
If you take a look at the official Instagram page for BYOMA, you can see that it reflects their values and ethos about educating its consumer base. Their highlights focus on the five essential steps in a skincare routine and break down their products in each section. It is bright, colourful and vibrant. By scrolling through their page, you can see that their main target audience is mainly geared towards women. They also cater towards young men that enjoy that whimsy and cozy lifestyle. They showcase their products, before-and-after transformations, educational posts, and events while maintaining their branding and brand colours. Furthermore, their visual identity on their page highlights that their brand is inclusive to all skin types and skin colours. This evokes a sense of belonging and confidence that their products were made with you in mind.

BYOMA Sensitive Skincare Review: Melting Balm Cleanser

What’s It For?
The Melting Balm Cleanser is a buttery soft and deep hydrating cleanser that effectively melts aways stubborn makeup, SPF and impurities while strengthening the skin barrier.
What’s In It?
Their Melting Balm Cleanser has some great ingredients that you would want to find in products that strengthen the skin barrier function, improves skin texture and is targeted for skin sensitivity. It also contains their Tri-Ceramide Complex that mimics and replenishes the skin with the essential lipids. What makes this product good is that every ingredient has a purpose. If an ingredient does not add any value to the overall formula, you won’t find it in there. Every ingredient in this product, with the exception of two, are emollients, which cleanse the skin without stripping it from its natural oils.
- Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil a great and healthy option to moisturise and nourish the skin especially dry skin.
- Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil a light plant oil that makes your skin smooth and soft.
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) a superstar ingredient that increases ceramide synthesis that results in a stronger and healthier skin barrier and skin hydration.
- Ceramide NP keeps the skin barrier healthy and hydrated.
- Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil (Seabuckthorn) contains a Vitamin E antioxidant that replenishes and soothes the skin.
How Do You Use It?
The BYOMA Melting Balm Cleanser is the very first step of your evening skincare routine. I prefer to scoop a small amount onto my hands and rub it gently. Then I massage it in circular motions on my face. Next, I wet my hands with lukewarm water to emulsify the product on my face and massage it again. I recommend doing this for sixty seconds before throughly rinsing the product off your face. Then, I will follow up with my second cleanser.
The Results & My Experience with the BYOMA Melting Balm Cleanser
As I mentioned earlier, I do like to test out other cleansers from time to time. The previous one I was using was no longer for me, so I popped over to Sephora in Morges, Switzerland (all the niche skincare products are there) and I saw the BYOMA section. At that time I had used two of their products prior and enjoyed those experiences. Due to that, I bought it and tried it out.
This is the second time I had tried a melting balm (first time here) and I liked how smooth and effortless applying the product felt on my skin. I did use too much the first time around and it can get messy. One balm can last me a good three to five months and I use it every night. I saw results within the first week. My skin felt hydrated, smooth and didn’t feel dry or stripped of my natural face oils. This has been tested both after a day’s worth of makeup and after wearing only sunscreen for the day. In short, I rotate this cleanser in my evening routine and tend to use it during winter and springtime.

After 30 seconds, add water to your hands to emulsify the cleanser on your face. Next, massage the remaining product with your hands for another 30 seconds before rinsing the product thoroughly with lukewarm water. Then, continue with the next step of your evening routine.
The Results & My Experience with the BYOMA Milky Moisture Cleanser
For the last year and a half, I have been leaning towards products that have a milky texture to them as I find that they make my skin glow overall. Once I discovered this product, I had to give it a try and it didn’t disappoint. What I liked about using this cleanser is that it is so gentle on my skin and it doesn’t produce a lot of bubbles. Moreover, my face feels fresh, renewed and nourished as the glow from the cleanser remains as I continue with my routine. In my opinion, anything with a milky texture can be used all year round. I believe that it is perfect for the colder months especially when your skin can get dull and dry.

How Do You Use It?
This product can be used as a toner in the mornings or as an on-the-go face mist. If the former, then continue with your morning routine i.e. your serums, moisturiser and SPF. If the latter, keep it in your bag to refresh your skin whenever you need it. When you want to use it, shake it well and mist it on clean and dry skin.
The Results & My Experience with the BYOMA Balancing Face Mist
The Balancing Face Mist by BYOMA is something that elevates and preps my skin as soon as I finish training. It prevents sweat clogging my pores and causing breakouts before I hop in the shower at home. Initially, I used it as an alternative for toner in the summer months and it was refreshing. However, it didn’t feel like it was priming my skin for the subsequent products. A thought came to me to try it as a post workout face mist and it worked better for my skin in that capacity. In sum, it will become a staple in my gym bag during the warmer months to give my skin a little TLC before my full morning skincare routine.

You can either apply it directly on your hands or a cotton pad (my preferred method) and pat it gently onto your face, neck and behind the ears. Once done, continue with the rest of your routine.
The Results & My Experience with the BYOMA Hydrating Milky Toner
As I have been loving products with milky textures lately, I knew that I was going to have a good experience with this toner. I was upset that I had finished it. My face was glowing, hydrated and nourished after every application. The combination of the polyglutamic acid and the sodium hyaluronate provides so much hydration that you can feel in your skin. I will be rotating between this toner and my other one by Anua as they both give me the same results.

The Results & My Experience with the BYOMA Smoothing Body Serum
In 2024, I started to explore body care and building a routine. I believe that I was reading a blog post by Mattie James about her experience with a body serum. I have never used serums on my body, only my face so I was intrigued to see whether I would enjoy this. The BYOMA Smoothing Body Serum was luxurious – it was hydrating (due to the squalane, the ceramide NP and the glycerin). My skin felt smoother after using it the first time. Despite trying one other body serum in the past and not having a great experience with it, I was hesitant to try this one. I didn’t have any expectations yet I was surprised by how much I enjoyed using this product over a month and a half and what it did for my skin. I can see myself indulging in this serum during the winter time.

How Do You Use It?
This product is the very last step of your evening skincare routine. Using the dropper, apply six to eight drops on your face and neck. Gently massage the oils into your skin to activate the product until it is fully absorbed.
The Results & My Experience with the BYOMA Hydrating Recovery Oil
This was the first product from BYOMA that I tried and I absolutely loved it! A facial oil is not a necessary step for your evening skincare routine, but it is good to seal in all that moisture and keep your skin hydrated, especially if you have dry and dehydrated skin. I prefer to use this all year round, however, I see the significant results during the colder months when the air is extremely dry. This oil is glorious– my face wasn’t oily or greasy when I applied it. It did take between five to ten minutes to fully absorb into my skin and left this glowing look on my face. Whenever I wake up in the morning, my face feels smooth and healthy.
Pricing and Affordability for BYOMA Skincare Products
BYOMA is a budget-friendly, affordable and high performance skincare brand. The fact that their formulation focuses on protecting and strengthening skin health and the skin barrier at this price range is incredible! The majority of their products, if not all, are fragrance-free, alcohol-free, vegan and cruelty free, speaks directly to their ethos and their target audience. The pricing of their products reflects the entry level of their audience into the world of skincare and the science behind it. Their prices range from $12 to $18 (roughly 12 CHF to 20 CHF/ £9.99 to £16.99). It is a skincare brand that I would recommend to my late teen to early twenties cousins who want to get into skincare and don’t know where to start.
