What does self care look like for you? Bubble baths, spa dates, trips to the nail salon are ideas that most people equate to self care. While those things can be enjoyable, self care will look different to each person. Self care is individualised intentional actions to take care of yourself. For me, adding little luxuries to revamp my daily life has been my way to add more self care moments. To the point that everything around me brings me pockets of joy and that has been strategic. My little luxuries are infused into the fabric of how I choose to enhance my life and they may not look the same as yours. So I ask again, what does self care look like for you? What do you consider as little luxuries and how will you add them to revamp your daily life?
The Importance of Self Care In Your 30s
Before we get into ideas on how to add little luxuries and revamping your life, let’s take a moment to explore why is self care is important in your 30s. People say that 30s is the new 20s because you have more life experience, more wisdom and more money. That is nothing that I can dispute. However, your 30s is also the best time to start developing self care routines and habits that will last; especially if you didn’t do it in your 20s.
The older that we get, the more that our bodies and our mindsets change. This cannot be further from the truth. In your 30s, life is changing fast and it comes with new dynamics. There are changes with relationships whether it be with family, friends or romantic. Re-balancing work and personal life, discovering and reinventing yourself are some of the most pressing concerns. In addition, the fear of failure rears its ugly head. Feelings that you either haven’t accomplished enough or feelings like you are behind in life. Of course, we can’t forget that the big one: getting older.
While this may not be the focus of today’s post (another topic for another day), it is important to highlight them. These are changes that everyone goes through, I’m even going through a couple right now. This is why self care is crucial in your 30s to alleviate the stress that can come with this new decade. Let’s get into revamping your life with little luxuries.

Revamp Your Bathroom Essentials
Other than my bedroom, my bathroom has become one place in which I enjoy spending time. That’s mainly because I never rush with my body care and skincare routines. My goal is to have healthy, even and glowing skin to feel fantastic at all times. While these routines are important to me, there are other bathroom essentials that I have deemed as little luxuries to revamp my daily life and you should too.
Hand soap and hand cream are essentials in both my bathroom and my kitchen. Each has their own place and are constantly refilled. There is just something about these essentials which makes my day a little more extraordinary and pleasurable. My hands are throughly nourished throughout the day and they smell so good. Another thing that is related to hands is cuticle oil. It wasn’t until I started to get my nails done regularly a couple of years ago that I invested in applying cuticle oil and the investment was worth it. My cuticles are no longer rough and my natural nails are healthier and stronger because of it.
A couple of other things to revamp in your bathroom are all your towels and your bathroom/shower mat. Towels are something that I am currently in the process of upgrading because I’m very specific about the colours and aesthetic that I want to infuse in my home life. One place that I have enjoyed perusing for bathroom essentials is Dunelm. They have sets of Egyptian cotton towels and I don’t know what screams pleasure and enjoyment more than that. I have already put in an order for their towels and I can’t wait to snuggle and wrap my body in them.
Cultivating Rituals & Routines
If you are a creature of habit like me, then you know the power of cultivating rituals and routines. Having a morning and evening routine brings stability, it reduces stress and helps you remain productive throughout the day. I like to start my mornings with a workout, a quiet meditation period where I do my daily devotionals and read affirmations. My morning routine is where I thrive and it helps seize the day. What I mean by that is spending my time intentionally so when the day ends, I can look back and be satisfied that I gave my best today. Your best will look different each day but the most important thing is to seize the day intentionally.
Revamp and perfecting your skincare routine
Feeling fantastic in your skin should be the goal. I know that some people like to rave about anti-aging. It’s a blessing to age and I’m going to leave it at that. Having healthy and nourished skin is achievable for everyone. In order to reach that goal, you need to have a dedicated skincare routine for both the AM and the PM. Applying an SPF (sunscreen) in the morning is key and you should never skip this step. If I’m going to be out and about all day, I’ll carry it in my bag to reapply. This is a great time to include a retinol serum (plant based if you have sensitive skin) to improve elasticity and exfoliation products for your lips, face, body and feet to reveal smoother skin. If you don’t have a skincare routine in place and don’t start where to start, start with this guide.
To improve skin health from the inside out, make sure you are drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day and getting quality sleep around 6-9 hours a night. If you really want to see results in your skin, you also have take care of yourself inside.
Upgrade & Revamp Your Bedroom
My bedroom is one of the last places in my flat, other than the balcony, that has not been decorated to the level that I want it to be. We spend half of our lives sleeping and your bedroom should be a place of peace, restoration and fun. Previously, I mentioned getting quality sleep to improve your skin health and that can’t happen if your bedroom isn’t your sleep sanctuary.
The little luxuries that I consider for a bedroom upgrade and revamp include the beddings. Hear me out here. When you go to a hotel and experience the softness and the luxuriousness of their beds, don’t you ever think about bringing that experience home? I do all the time and that’s why I’m committed to decorating my bedroom into a sleep sanctuary. I think I have become an expert in thread counts, duck feathers and the sort in the last couple of weeks. Dunelm has become my go-to stop for all essentials related to beddings. I want to be able to go into my bedroom and sink between the sheets.
Little Luxuries
A couple of other little luxuries to revamp in your bedroom is decor such as plants, artwork and pictures, candles and colours. I think colour is extremely lacking in bedrooms these days because everyone is chasing white spaces. White walls, white beddings, white vanities etc. For me, having too much white reminds me of a hospital room and that causes me stress! Don’t be afraid to explore more with colour. Decorate your room into a place that does not bring you any stress and makes you feel relaxed. Moreover, lightning is so important for your sanctuary. If you like reading before you sleep, consider choosing a bedside lamp that creates an ambiance for you to read.
Maintaining & Strengthening Friendships
When we think about self care ideas, friendships don’t really come to the forefront. As we age, the less time we spend with friends because we are busy and we have other responsibilities. Loneliness is something that hits people hard and can cause stress. I’m not perfect when it comes to reaching out to friends but I try to be consistent. Most of my friends don’t live in the same country as me so scheduling regular meet ups is difficult but not impossible. I will say this though, watching your friends’ stories on social media does not count as putting effort into a friendship. However, there are ways to strengthen and maintain existing friendships and they can revamp the way you live your life:
- Schedule regular meet-ups – figure out the frequency that works for both parties. Go to events, do activities together whether on the weekend or after work.
- Answer those text messages – maintaining communication is necessary to keeping friends close. Try to block off time during your day to answer your text messages.
- Call a friend – some people don’t like text messages and prefer calls. Try to call a friend once a week.
Maintaining friendships is all about making time for someone. Make it a habit to reach out to someone if you are thinking about them. Send a quick text message/DM to them and let them know that they popped into your mind.
Building New Friendships To Revamp Your Life
- Join a gym/sport – joining a club or a sporting activity is a great way to meet to new people
- Solo date/ trip – going on a solo date and a solo trip makes you more open to speaking to new people.
- Join a hobby group or a new church – you can find like-minded people in these spaces.
Items & Areas To Revamp Consistently
Lastly, there are certain items that you should revamping on a regularly basis. These count as little luxuries for me because they are essentials that are often forgotten but can really romanticise your day.
The first items are bras and underwear. My favourite place to buy bras and underwear is Marks & Spencers in the UK, the quality of their products is chef’s kiss. Recently, I went there for bra fitting and investing in multiple bras. Some are everyday bras, others are plunge or lace bras. Something else I started doing with underwear was having specific underwear for that time of the month, gym underwear and regular underwear. This ensures that I can romanticise this part of my day because I’m secure and comfortable.
Stationery
The last two items are stationery and planners. Planners are one of the items that have really elevated my life as it allows me to celebrate my wins and be creative. In order to do that I need to have great pens to note my thoughts down. One thing about me, I don’t play around with my stationery. I only use black and red pen as something about blue ink rubs me the wrong way. Highlighters, pencils, Post-It Notes, mini staplers with coloured staples brings me so much joy. I like to see my notebooks and planners filled with colour as it helps me remember what I wrote if it is associated with a colour.
These are the 20 self care ideas that you need to revamp your daily life. Life is short and should be filled with pockets of joy wherever you turn. I hope that this post has given you something to think about and adapt in your life. What does self care look like for you?
